A mellow and enjoyable 5.4 Flatiron scramble
The sun rose as we were gearing up for the climb, casting a lovely shade of red on the 5th Flatiron for a few minutes. The East Face Left (aka East Face South Side) route begins here. Roach rates it 5.4 while Rossiter gives it a 5.5. I have to agree with Roach on this one.
Dominic placing a nut at the start of the second pitch.
Dominic starting up the second pitch. The tips of the First and Third Flatirons can be seen on the lower right.
After the first pitch the rock gets noticeably steeper.
Dominic belaying me up the third and final pitch to the small, pointy summit of the 5th Flatiron. We found an old bottle of beer there addressed to team something or other. It appeared that it had been left by a party who had friends that planned on making the ascent soon after but for some reason never made it.
A 75 foot rappel from bolts down the north side gets you to scrambling territory.
