Bill, Kevin, Andy, Josh & Dominic enjoy a cloudy sunrise show from the top of UN 4,980. This ranked summit is just a 5 - 10 minute detour from the canyoneering route and offers spectacular views east over Arches National Park.

We weren't positive about which canyon was Tierdrop so we explored all options until we were certain.

Dominic & Josh ready our two 60 meter ropes for the initial low angle rappel into the canyon. Even though its only a 30 or 40 foot rappel, the anchor is a boulder very far from the lip and a lot of extra rope is required.

Group rope pulling helps in overcoming large amounts of friction from much rope over sandstone.

Bullshittin' while waiting for our turns at the second rappel. The anchor feels solid but encourages us to rappel lightly.

Kevin's the first one to test the anchor while we keep a close eye on it and give the boulder a little encouragement to stay in place.

Kevin partway down rappel number two. At this point there's enough rope running over the rock that anchor failure is no longer a concern.

This third and final rappel is the longest and by far the most vertical of the three. Luckily the anchor is much larger and inspires a lot more confidence than the first two.

Ater the final rappel we walked this narrow ledge until we could easily scramble to the bottom of the canyon.

The route joins the popular Park Avenue Trail and follows it a short distance back to the trailhead. Our group of 6 wasn't moving particularly quickly and the round trip still only took us less than 3 hours.
