  • Looking northeast across Snow Canyon as we climb toward the south ridge of UN 4,217. We have zero information about this peak and decide to explore the south ridge as an ascent option. width:640;;height:455
  • DB starts up a slabby ramp. width:270;;height:480
  • Dominic leads the way. There is plenty of good scrambling and the rock is fairly solid. width:270;;height:480
  • width:270;;height:480
  • Topping out on the south ridge...kind of. We find that the "ridge" isn't much of a ridge at all, rather its complex terrain cut by many little canyons. It seems highly unlikely that we'll be able to reach the summit from here. width:640;;height:360
  • We won't give up too easily though. We begin to explore options to cross the first canyon. Finally a low 5th class downclimb proves to be the key. width:285;;height:480
  • This is the gully we climnbed down to enter the first little canyon. If you look closely you can see DB in there. width:270;;height:480
  • CP & DB in the little canyon. width:270;;height:480
  • From here it looks like and endless sea of canyons and ribs to cross; beautiful though. width:640;;height:360
  • width:640;;height:360
  • DB & CP on a steep but easy and very cool upclimb. width:640;;height:360
  • Soon we're forced to do some tight canyoneering! width:270;;height:480
  • We can't believe this improbable route keeps going! It feels like we're in Leprechaun Canyon. width:279;;height:480
  • Back to slickrock strolling. width:640;;height:387
  • Dominic and CP help DB on a tricky little downclimb. width:640;;height:360
  • Summit in sight! width:640;;height:360
  • width:640;;height:360
  • View north from the summit. Snow Canyon State Park. width:640;;height:360
  • Beginning the descent. We came from near the highpoint on the left but plan to investigate a potential alternate route down. width:640;;height:360
  • Descending southeast into a brushy canyon that we hope will deliver us to the bottom of Snow Canyon. Huge chunks of basalt litter the slickrock. width:640;;height:360
  • Petroglyphs seen under a collapsed piece of rock on the descent. width:270;;height:480
