A short 5th class climb and nice consolation prize after bailing on our main objective due to conditions
Dwight and Pete on the approach to Potosi, our objective for the day. The North Couloir which we intended to climb is located on the backside.
Dwight heading along the ridge from "Coffeepot" to the Potosi saddle. The North Couloir is an extremely aesthetic line. Unfortunately conditions below the "Coffepot" - Potosi saddle weren't safe enough for our liking and we chose to bail.
Pete making his was along the ridge from "Coffeepot" towards Potosi. It was plagued by cornices. "Coffeepot" and Teakettle can be seen in the background.
Dwight leading the short 5.2 pitch to the summit of "Coffeepot".
Pete rappelling from the sumit of "Coffeepot".
Dwight heading away from "Coffeepot" after the climb.
Dwight and Pete head towards Teakettle Mountain to see if conditions will permit a safe ascent.
It was getting too late in the morning for us to commit to climbing this couloir that gives access to the upper part of Teakettle Mountain. The top looked a bit loaded and things were heating up.
We descended the wide gully under Teakettle Mountain. Both other times I've been up here this has been full of very nasty scree. Its a million times better with snow!.
Shelf road to Yankee Boy Basin. With the rapid snow melt, small waterfalls were draining onto the road and we had to roll the windows up!
