A rather mellow snow climb capped off with some spicy scrambling
The Outward Bound Couloir leads to the saddle between Columbia Point (left) and Kit Carson Mountain (right).
Dominic starting up the apron of the couloir.
The climb didn't seem to deserve the steep rating Roach gives it. I don't think it exceeded 45 degrees but it maybe vary from year to year or throughout the season.
Near the top we took the narrow left branch of the couloir since our goal was Columbia Point. The right branch provides access to Kit Carson Mountain. The snow in this section was a little steeper.
Dominic on the summit of Columbia Point. The Crestones are on the left and the Sierra Blanca is in the distance behind the sand dunes.
Kit Carson Mountain from Columbia Point.
Dominic descending the short stretch of steep, exposed rock between the summit and the top of the couloir. Because some of it was covered with slick snow we decided to protect it.
Dominic descending the left branch of the Outward Bound Couloir. Unfortunately there isn't an easy alternative descent.
