Our consolation prize after conditions foiled our attempt at Pacific Peak's North Couloir
The sky to the east begins to light up as we make our way up Mohawk Basin. The peak on the left is Mount Helen.
The northeast face of Pacific Peak. The North Couloir is right of center. Partway up it doglegs left out of view and an imposing cornice sits atop the right branch.
Crystal Peak as seen from below Pacific Peak's northeast face. This would soon be our consolation prize after we deemed Pacific's North Couloir too unsafe for climbing.
We saw plenty of recent point releases. These ones were below the ridge between Crystal and Pacific.
Dominic en route to Crystal Peak. We picked our way up the rocky south slopes that Dominic is heading toward.
The views of Pacific Peak were the only good thing about the climb up Crystal Peak.
Snowy Pacific Peak from the summit of Crystal Peak. Someday I will return for another attempt at the North Couloir. I have to forget the postholing nightmare first though.
