A great steep snow climb spiced up by an intimidating cornice
Dwight approaching Pacific Peak's steep north face shortly after sunrise. The lower portion of the couloir can be seen on the right.
Jamie and Dwight in the lower portion of the couloir. The snow was OK but definately on the soft side. On both of my early morning visits to this couloir in the last two weeks the cornice was sheeding snow down the large runnel on the right, this time to a much lesser extent. We were able to stay well left of it.
Dwight leading past the interesting pillar just below the dogleg.
Looking back at Jamie and Dwight as I try to tune out the intimidating cornice looming above.
Jamie leading us to the left at the dogleg. The cornice can be seen on the right.
Dwight hooking the left into the upper couloir.
Crystal Peak and Father Dyer Peak from the couloir.
Jamie starting up the seconf half of the couloir, happy to finally be out from under the shedding cornice.
The upper portion of the couloir is steep and narrow.
The upper part of the couloir was holding some fresh powder from a recent storm.
Jamie topping out after an easier than expected climb.
Dwight nearing the top of the couloir. Crystal Peak can be seen in the background.
Dwight topping out as Jamie looks on. From here its a two minute scramble to the summit.
