An easy (5.4) and enjoyable Flatiron climb rewarded by a sweet rappel
The Goose (left) and Seal Rock (right) on the approach from NCAR. Oddly enough, Seal Rock remains open year round while The Goose undergoes wildlife (raptor) closures.
Jamie leading the first pitch of the climb (5.4R). The rock to his right butting up against Seal Rock is known as the Pup.
Dominic on the first pitch. After climbing along the gaping crack on the right, the route continues up the rather smooth face on the left.
Jamie on the steep and slabby second pitch.
Dominic leading up the third pitch. The rock is wonderfully featured and the holds are fantastic.
Jamie on the first pitch as he and I follow simultaneously on separate ropes. Dominic can be seen belaying us from above.
The summit of Seal Rock features several pools. It has been raining a lot lately so I imagine they may have been fuller than normal on our visit. We observed various wild and interesting little creatures inhabiting them!
Dominic and Jamie posing for a summit shot. The Goose is the jutting mass of rock behind them.
The rappel from the summit in a nice reward for the effort. We used two 60 meter ropes and there was little to spare.
Its a long way down Seal Rock's massive North Face. Enjoy the ride.
Jamie below an overhang that forces the rappel to become free.
